Eugene Gourevitch on RTVI US: Uzbekistan's Investment Climate and Institutional Risk

Watch the Interview

Eugene Gourevitch, President and Co-Founder at OmniStrat Group, joined RTVI US to discuss Uzbekistan's investment climate, its reform trajectory, and the institutional risks investors weigh when entering the market.

Gourevitch focused on the gap between regulatory reform on paper and execution on the ground: how institutional behavior, not legislation alone, shapes investor outcomes, and why credible governance and enforcement frameworks are what ultimately drive market confidence.

The conversation reflects OmniStrat's ongoing advisory work across Central Asia, where the firm helps investors and operators navigate regulatory complexity and political risk. The interview aired in Russian on RTVI US.

OmniStrat Group Highlighted at Global Leaders Summit for Central Asia Work

OmniStrat Group was spotlighted at the Global Leaders Summit in Istanbul this February, where Vice President, Corporate Finance Division Michael Fox-Rabinovitz spoke about the firm's active role navigating investment challenges across Central Asia.

The summit centered on the theme "The Age of Artificial Intelligence and a Sustainable Future," examining how leadership, ethics, and long-term thinking must guide technological advancement in business.

In his remarks at the summit, Fox-Rabinovitz described the realities OmniStrat faces on the ground in the region: "OmniStrat is working very actively in this region. Our role is to solve impossible problems, and those impossible problems pop up every day. We're dealing with systemic corruption on all levels: corrupt politicians, a legal system that is bound to answer to government officials, and an unclear legal environment."

The comments reflect challenges well-documented across the five Central Asian markets (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan), where a combined regional GDP of $596 billion is attracting growing international investment interest, even as political risk, sanctions exposure, and regulatory instability remain significant headwinds.

Kazakhstan leads the region with a $320B GDP, followed by Uzbekistan at $159B. The region has drawn $18B in foreign direct investment recently, and EUR 10B has been pledged for Middle Corridor infrastructure development.

Despite the opportunity, operational hurdles persist, including landlocked logistics, bureaucratic permitting, inconsistent regulatory enforcement, and skilled labor shortages, making local expertise and established relationships critical for investors seeking entry.

Eugene Gourevitch, President and Co-Founder at OmniStrat Group, joined RTVI — the international broadcaster serving Russian-speaking audiences in 162 countries — to share his take on today's economic environment.

With oil at $80–$120 per barrel and inflation still above the Fed's 2% target, Gourevitch flagged the risk of stagflation, the dangerous combination of economic stagnation and rising inflation. He noted that AI investment and military spending remain structural supports for growth, but that the environment demands careful navigation.

On market volatility, he urged investors not to panic: "The average drop in the S&P 500 after major geopolitical events is only about 5%, and the market usually recovers. Most likely, you already have an investment plan, and it's best to stick to it."

OmniStrat Aids in the Release of Detained Individuals

OmniStrat Group announced that it has successfully secured the voluntary departure of a client from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. The client was released without a deportation order, preserving the possibility of a lawful return to the United States in the near future.

The case centered on navigating the intersection of U.S. immigration enforcement, international law, and the validity an Interpol Notice. OmniStrat worked closely with legal counsel to challenge the basis of the notice and protect the client's rights throughout the process.

"Interpol is something that gets abused quite a lot, and so you have to make sure that it is an actual notice," said the client's attorney. "Many times, the information simply gets leaked and it's not correct."

The outcome underscores OmniStrat's expertise in complex, cross-border matters involving international law enforcement mechanisms and U.S. immigration proceedings. Book a Consultation to speak with our team.
